websitephotoI am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Victoria in British Columbia and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research.  I am on leave between July 2021 and July 2022 while I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Yale University.

My research areas include history, labour, and education.  I use tools from these disciplines to better understand the persistence of socioeconomic inequalities between groups in North America with a particular focus on skill accumulation and discrimination.  I can be reached via email at [at]

In Victoria,  I am fortunate to live and work in the territory of the Lkwungen (Songhees), Wyomilth (Esquimalt), and WS’ANEC’ (Saanich) peoples.  In New Haven, I acknowledge the lands of the Mohegan, Mashantucket Pequot, Eastern Pequot, Schaghticoke, Golden Hill Paugussett, Niantic, and the Quinnipiac and other Algonquian speaking peoples who have stewarded through generations the lands and waterways of what is now the state of Connecticut.
